EXP3 Refining interior space


Orientations of different programs:


One of the simplest way to figure out how much space do I actually need to consume can be represented by volumes of cubes. From above, dark blue = workshop and studios, cyan = lecture hall, red = staff areas, orange = research component and grey and white are circulation paths.


Green = meeting place in this case.
The stacking is purposely built to skew to towards each other.

This method of estimation lead to my draft planning of the use of level and floor plates to create good and effectively sustainable spaces.


My first draft, where there is more big general spaces, sharing a lot of rooms with less effective positioning.



My second darft, actually my final plan is correctly define the space dividers, such less unused space on the structure lead to unsustainable living.
It is also use as a bridge, therefore a focus on it main circulation path ways is most concerned.

After combining, an interesting landscape is formed, where a contrast of the misc and actually fictional entities.



FINALISING INTERIOR:

Programs in the buildings varies in sizes, where none of them are the same. Some floor plates or walls are taking maximum advantage from the stairs, where it leaves the circulation with a minimum of 3 - 3.5m width. On the other hand, all levels are connected by the main circulation, which means, people don't always have to take internal stairs when walking on the main way.


The changing gradient of colour is applied to notify the difference in levels of high and the different functions for each programs in the building. The brighter the colour is on the up stairs is mostly due to a higher exposure of sunlight, and as brighter colour tend to reflects better. Therefore light grey must be a lot better than the Dark black ones.



Interior view on the long studios, where all of the walls only separates the space by do not provide privacy, This encourage active and group learning within the community.

Drafts that I just for the prototype





After multiple attempts of sewing the architecture school and the bridge structure up. A closer to refinement form is presented. Where they together create a grace and elegant arch, and yet still remain as a hybrid structure. 

As you can see from above image, multiple line toning are require to produce a fitting curve.

I call this the prototype one, which it represents the starting of refinement , because the main form of the structure is finally decided.
The architectural school is more interactively "sewing" through the super structure, creating a subtle dynamic, yet not too eye catching, means easy to blend with the surroundings.

Here I am trying to figure out, the interior interaction between the structure and its functions. where different thickness of ceilings and walls are trailed.

According to the previous sectional drawing, I came up with fluid form which involve shaping it in all direction on sketch up. Therefore I tried the idea on different shapes, such as the one in front on you.



Then...., my first successful hybrid "bridge".
The blue parts are the architectural school space, and the special feature is that the whole blue school part not only cures around the bridge structure, it penetrates through the white bits, like sewing, continue over a tangle with each other.

Though, I reckon this look is not elegant enough, and I also wanted to design a bridge that may will be a product of the collaboration of an architect and engineers. Such as the one below, where I started to take physic into account. Adopting the arch rule to sustain the bridge over a 400m span without any external suspensions.




It turns out to be lighter looking and ergonomic with the landscape, blending with it.


Apart from the bridge form, the counter architectural body must change into a more "aerodynamic- shape" to support the structure. In this case, I designed a slimmer space, where it may be more suitable for a 100 people architectural school, as well as aesthetically "following the flow".

I originally gain a lot of inspiration from a Mies van der rohe plan drawing into a section of a "ferris wheel" architectural school, where it "rolls" from one valley end to another.



From this plan, I also decided that I will relocate my bridge to Hong Kong, where I found a little bit relatable and that the inspiration coming through mainly involves with urban concepts.



After the last bridge development, I decided that I shall go with the architectural dualism that was mentioned on the the mash up. As a result, I attempt to have a hybrid form of two balanced entities.
Where one may be will rap around another.

After a few attempts,  I came to a closer solution to a possible form my bridge. A form that coheres with  the surrounding, such as air and water in the case.


MASH UP


A duel collaboration of Architecture and engineering = urban GREEN landscape:


“We’re part of a natural system, but we’ve somewhat forgotten it, thanks to clocks and calendars and other artifices like packaged foods,” in order to reunite Earth’s rhythms, what we can do can be more of a disservice to sustainable landscapes both marginalizing and oversimplifying the complexity of landscapes into drip irrigation and native plants. This method can be recognise as a metaphysical dualism, where a clear separation between appearance and reality, the mind and thesenses, and subject and object.
Most of the twentieth century Western philosophical movements, including deconstructionism and poststructuralism,  Architecture and civil engineering have become a newfound relevance - but also the act that compared to these two somewhat bloated professions - making it a small group that will continue to grow in prominance and size in upcoming years.

Bridges design drafts

Concept one:
I initiated a a idea base on sequences of curves, where i found it naturally coheres with the surroundings and that it will provide a very nice smooth curve over the bridge surface, where people may walk on top of.





The curves of the bridge is following the fibonacci sequence, which helps me to create smooth surface.



I am attending to have the plan of the bridge (left drawing) apply onto the elevation form of it (right), unfortunately, I still haven't yet figured out a method to achieve this, I may come back to this later in the process.




The bridge will be spanning across the Hong Kong's Victoria Habour, therefore the sizeof it will be huge comparing to a person

In order to withstand the span, it is relying on the suspension supports over counter shape and strength, in the case 2 thick steel rod is that to provide point of support for each pat of the bridge.
